The sun is out and we got those daisy dukes on just in time for ATL’s most queerlicious weekend! This Memorial Day weekend, May 24th to 27th, marks the 6th Annual MondoHomo, the dirty south’s one of a kind queer arts and music festival. Under the banner of this year’s theme, “Queer Justice! Queer Beats!”, MondoHomo is ready to deliver its dirtiest, sexiest gay ole’ time yet!

Staying true to its political nature, this year’s theme embodies the purpose of MondoHomo – recognizing art and music by queer performers as fundamentally political and absolutely fabulous.  With a slew of fresh blood and some mighty fine elders, we promises to bring you a glitter-infused weekend you won’t soon forget!

This year, we’re happy as a gay can be to call The Arts Exchange home! Located at 750 Kalb Street Southeast, Atlanta, GA 30312, The Arts Exchange is a vibrant multicultural, multidisciplinary, and intergenerational cultural center. What better place to showcase some amazin’ queer talent? We’re elated to join its roster of amazing events!

FOUR DAYS OF FUN!

This year’s festival will be headlined by music sensation Double Duchess.  Self-described as “high energy, playful, fun, sexy, and unforgettable divas that will have you wishing you were as queer as they are,” ATL betta prepare itself for some prime booty shakin’ music.  Hailing from San Francisco, the performing duo have reached audiences all across the world with their own special blend of electro-hop music; a unique version of hip hop that welcomes everyone to shake that ass. And if that ain’t enough, this year’s festival brings exciting changes with a broadening of our performance night to include an eclectic array of performance artists and the introduction of some fierce acoustic sets during our park day.  See the full festival lineup for more!

TAKIN’ IT LO-FI

Diving into the hard knock world of apps and gay boy love makings, MondoHomo is thrilled to debut our very own “real, live Grind(3)r app” during the festival weekend.  How does it work you ask? During the festival, we will have a station set up where participants can take their picture and post them up on our board. Attendees are encouraged to check each other out and work on your flirting game by writing on each other’s postings. Unlike our high-tech 21st century cousin, who seems a little too focused on the menz, MondoHomo encourages *everyone* to jump in the flirting pool. It will be a sexy grindin’ extravaganza!

We’re also excited to provide camping space for out-of-towners and locals interested in traversing the rugged outdoors of The Arts Exchange! And by “rugged outdoors”, we mean a wonderful green meadow that presents fabulous opportunities for the so inclined. While the MondoPosse is not able to set up resources for campers in the outside area, we encourage everyone to feel welcomed to hunker down and contact heyqueer@mondohomo.com for more information. And one more thing, we’re delighted to announce that Good Food Truck will be present throughout the weekend for festival participants to purchase yummy good!

BRINGIN’ IT HOME!

MondoHomo recognizes that it takes all the colors of the gayest rainbows to make our festival possible! It’s our mission to create an inclusive space that celebrates diversity and makes room for you to come as you are – lesbians, girly boys, fags, cubs, dykes, trans folks, nelly bottoms, queers, bears, genderqueers, gays, bisexuals, and everything in between and out of this world! We demand a space for queers (and allies) of all colors, political backgrounds, classes, and abilities!

Fulfilling its radical mission to be as open and accessible as possible, MondoHomo events are non-smoking, accessible, and feature gender-free bathrooms to accommodate all people! Most of our events are FREE or “pay what you can.”  No one will be turned away for lack of funds! To purchase a VIP festival pass – a great value at only $25 – head over to the Ticket page!

ALL AGES EVERYBODY!!

We are ECSTATIC to open up our festival to all ages! When building an awesome space like MondoHomo, we recognize that it’s especially important that we build solidarity with young queers and make sure that they feel welcomed in our space!

Furthermore, we’re happy to provide free childcare in collaboration with Kelli’s ChildCare Collection, a radical organization dedicated to providing free childcare assistance to progressive organizations. We want EVERYONE at MondoHomo, and this means investing in providing a space for everyone to show up! This is a groundbreaking addition to the radest queer festival around!

Spaghetti, Bingo, and Queer Storytelling Time! MondoHomo’s Heartwarming & Soulfilling Event!

Atlanta – The year 2012 is here and the MondoHomo festival is gearing up for a weekend of new and exciting changes. Stay tuned! Up for its sixth year debut during Memorial Day weekend from May 24-27, the MondoPosse boasts this year’s theme “Queer Justice! Queer Beats!”. The queer organizers are proud to offer the annual Spaghetti and Bingo dinner and the QueerStory social event on March 20th at Sauced in Inman Park. Guests are encouraged to arrive at 7pm sharp.

Following amazing tradition, the dinner and bingo event encompasses inter-generational love and queer story telling from some of Atlanta’s queer icons. Atlanta drag superstar Diamond Lil returns as host. This year, the queer icons and storytellers are more dynamic than ever!

New to this year, each table will have “queer story bowls” with questions and conversation starters to encourage inter-generational exchange of queer life experiences. Another exciting change to this night of “queer love” is the venue change to Sauced, which will now offer a buffet for the spaghetti dinner. And don’t forget the best fun: bingo with awesome prizes!

Mentors & story tellers confirmed so far: Duke Raymond, Pat Hussain, Craig Washington, Theresa Davis, Zan Thornton, Franklin Abbott, The Duchess, Dave Hayward, Fred Brazzell, Mikel Wilson. The event costs $20 and includes: three-course spaghetti buffet dinner, a bingo card, and lots of storytellin’ and queer lovin’!

Bring cash or an ATM card (there’s an ATM onsite) – this fundraiser is cash-only for entry, beer & wine, and extra BINGO cards. However you can pre-purchase tickets via credit card or paypal here: 2 tickets for $30; single tickets for $20, and pay-what-you-can tickets available. All MondoHomo events are pay what you can.

Queerstory Spaghetti Bingo is co-sponsored by Touching Up Our Roots, and the Atlanta chapter of SAGE (Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders).
